Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT) and our Chronic Lung Disease Navigator
Allison had no idea what an RRT did until her friend recommended Respiratory Therapy to her as a career idea. She took the leap and applied to TCC’s 2-year program. “I had no clue what I was doing. I started classes like, ‘What is a respiratory therapist? I don’t know… but I’m gonna be one!’”
She loves what she does. She explained, “We get to know our patients and we help them breathe easier. We’re at the bedside a lot, alongside nurses and doctors, providing routine care such as breathing treatments. But we also respond to almost all emergency situations and work closely in critical care.”
Now, Allison works as our Chronic Lung Disease Navigator. “My role is a proactive approach to managing patients with chronic lung diseases such as COPD and asthma. I provide information, education and resources about these diseases to our patients and the community,” she shared. Part of her job is educating patients about their diseases, teaching them how to properly use inhalers or inhaled medications and connecting them with specialists at TMH Physician Partners- Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep or the Tallahassee Memorial Transition Center.
